Giraffe Skulls

The Giraffe, reaching heights up to nineteen feet, is the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant on Earth, Native to Africa, the giraffe feeds on leaves that are out of reach of most other herbivores. In addition, their long 20" tongue allows the giraffe to delicately pluck foliage from amongst the sharp thorns of the Acacia tree.

One of it many distinctive features, The ossicones (or horns) of the giraffe are bumpy hair-covered knobs that grow slowly throughout the duration of its life.

The name "giraffe" has its earliest known origins in the Arabic word zarāfah(زرافة),perhaps borrowed from the animal's Somali name geri. The Arab name is translated as "fast-walker".   The modern English form developed around 1600 from the French girafe.   "Camelopard" is an archaic English name for the giraffe deriving from the Ancient Greek for camel and leopard, referring to its camel-like shape and its leopard-like colouring.
