Size
An average size zebra skin rug is approx. 6 feet at the widest point by approx. 9 feet from nose to tail. If you have size limitations, we can try to accommodate a slightly smaller or larger hide. Please note any size specifications in the Comments section of your order.
Color
Zebra hides vary greatly in color, ranging from a very dark brown stripe (“black” from a distance) to soft chocolate brown (very popular!). For examples of the kinds of unique color characteristics of our zebra hide rugs, please view our furniture pieces featured on our Zebra Furniture.
When placing an order, you can also specify your color preference in the Comments section to best suit the décor where the rug will be placed.
Lining
In order to allow the hide to lie completely flat and to prevent the edges from “curling up” over time, we offer an optional thick felt lining that covers the entire underside of the zebra skin rug. Black felt is used on zebra hides that resemble a black stripe, and chocolate brown felt for zebra hides with brown tones. Please allow 7-10 business days lead time for the backing to be applied.
Berchells Zebra
All of our zebra skin rugs are common E.q. Burchellii (Burchells Zebra). Unlike the Hartmans and other Mountain Zebra, Burchells zebra are quite prolific and are not an endangered or protected species. The zebra hides we sell are from Southern African Government sponsored culls, with the purpose of maintaining the herds to a healthy population in relation to the size of the various game reserves where the animals originate. These Zebra rugs are imported legally and inspected by US Customs and US Department of Fish and Wildlife.
